The term ‘medical’ acupuncture is not meant to imply that the use of it is reserved solely by medical doctors, but refers to the idea that this approach to acupuncture is based on the current understanding of the structure and function of the musculo-skeletal system, and that diagnosis is based on conventional methods of medical history and examination.
It’s not a fix it all in one go modality – movement, strength training and other soft tissue techniques will complement it, but I can certainly understand the theory of how and why it could make a longer lasting impact for those in pain.
